83, a film starring Ranveer Singh, has earned a century at the domestic box office, grossing Rs 100.56 crore in just 17 days.
The domestic box office for filmmaker Kabir Khan’s cricket drama “83” has surpassed Rs 100 crore, the producers said on Monday. The Ranveer Singh-starring picture has already grossed Rs 100.56 crore in India after seventeen days of release. On December 24, the film was released in Hindi, Tamil, Telugu, Kannada, and Malayalam.83 is the second Hindi film to reach a century at the box office in 2021. Sooryavanshi was the first to achieve so, and it grossed Rs. 196 crores during its run. 83 has already surpassed the Rs. 100 crore milestone, and while the lifetime gross is estimated to be around Rs. 110 crores, one would expect a lot more.
The film earned an additional Rs. 1.47 crore on Sunday, bringing the total to Rs. 100.56 crores. These are the totals for all languages, including the dubbed versions from the south, and while the Hindi version will eventually reach Rs. 100 crores, it should have done so much sooner.
Tanhaji – The Unsung Warrior and Baaghi 3 in 2020, and Sooryavanshi in 2021, have been the only big grossers in the Bollywood box office for the past two years. 83 has managed to surpass Baaghi 3, which had gathered as much in just 11 days before the COVID-19 pandemic forced the cinemas to close. Meanwhile, Kabir Khan recently discussed the pandemic’s impact on the film. He told the sources that he felt exhilarated to create this movie that has garnered so much affection, but there is also a disappointment that not everyone who wants to see it can see it today since the COVID-19 pandemic is present with historic numbers. We cared a lot for the film for two long years, waiting for the right moment to launch it so that everybody could watch it in the theatres. But, no matter how well we plan, we will never be able to prevent this epidemic. The whole team was completely unaware that the explosion (of cases) would occur on the day of our release. We (the country) reached 6,000 instances on December 24, and in ten days, we had reached a lakh. It was just bad and sad.
