RRR delayed due to Covid
Just when things were cheering for Indian films at the box office, new restrictions were imposed due to an increase in the number of Covid-19 cases across the country. Jersey, starring Shahid Kapoor and Mrunal Thakur, was scheduled to be released on December 31, 2021, but the film’s producers decided to delay its release.
Given the current state and uncertainty, more film launches may be deferred. While the Delhi government has already closed theatres, Maharashtra is operating at 50% capacity in cinema halls, and many states have announced new restrictions, including a night curfew.
It has now been revealed that one of the most anticipated films, RRR, starring Jr NTR, Ram Charan, Alia Bhatt and Ajay Devgn, which was set to be released on January 7, was postponed today.
The makers of the movie wrote, “Despite our tireless efforts, some situations are beyond our control. We have no choice but to ask you to hold on to your excitement as many Indian states close theatres. We promised to restore the glory of Indian cinema, and we will at the appropriate time.”
Many people were surprised by the postponement of the release because other big-budget projects that were originally scheduled to hit the big screens during Sankranthi, such as Pawan Kalyan and Rana Daggubati’s Bheemla Nayak and Alia Bhatt’s Gangubai Kathiawadi, were postponed to avoid a box-office clash.
It was only a few days ago that some sources shared that the SS Rajamouli-directed film would be released on time. According to recent reports, more restrictions will be imposed in Maharashtra and other states. Considering the present state, the producers have decided not to release the film.
RRR is a period drama movie that tells the story of two freedom fighters in the early twentieth century, Komaram Bheem (played by Jr NTR) and Allu Sitarama Raju (played by Ram Charan). Alia Bhatt and British actor Olivia Morris have been cast as the female leads, with other notable actors such as Ajay Devgn, Shriya Saran, and Samuthirakani also playing pivotal roles. RRR will be released in five different languages: Telugu, Tamil, Hindi, Kannada, and Malayalam.
