Punjabi movie “Harjeeta” which was released on 18 May 2018 won the best Punjabi film in the regional languages category in the national film awards. This movie was based on 23- year- old Indian Professional Feild Hockey Player Harjeet Singh Tuli. He was the captain of the Indian junior hockey team which won the junior hockey world cup in December 2016.
The movie showed Harjeet’s life’s early struggles and his incredible journey from being born to a truck driver in rural Punjab to leading India to its only hockey World Cup at any level in 15 years. “Harjeeta” was directed by director Vijay Kumar Arora, written by Jangdeep Sindu and Produced by Munish Sahni.
Harjeet’s character was played by famous Punjabi actor and singer Ammy Virk. The movie had won two national awards. In the film, Sameep Ranaut played junior Harjeet character. He debuted his acting career through this movie and for the role, he won the best child artist award.
To celebrate their happiness, Producer Munish took to social media and share a letter sent by information and broadcasting ministry. Previously, Punjab 1984 won the best Punjabi film in which actor and singer Diljit Dosanjh played the lead role.
