Sanjay Leela Bhansali has started filming his new movie, Heeramandi, after the success of his last film, Gangubai Kathiawadi, which smashed all records both domestically and internationally. According to reports, the show would follow the lives of three generations of courtesans in Lahore’s Heeramandi (a red light district). For those who are unaware, Heeramandi is an eight-episode web show created especially for Netflix rather than a movie.
It should be noted that the filmmaker, who has already contributed numerous classics to Indian cinema, like Bajirao Mastani, Devdas, and more, is ready to excite audiences with his upcoming project.
Sudeep Chatterjee, the director of photography for the forthcoming production, released a photo of the clapperboard to announce that filming has begun after much conjecture around it. The image of the clapperboard was taken during the muhurat on June 27, which indicates that the movie began production on Monday. “To fresh starts,” Sudeep commented when sharing the article.
Huge streaming service Netflix formally announced its partnership with director Bhansali for Heeramandi in August of last year. We are thrilled to confirm that Heeramandi by Sanjay Leela Bhansali IS COMING TO NETFLIX SUPER SOON. Words can’t express how thrilled we really are that Sanjay Leela Bhansali is working with us on this monumental Netflix Original series, according to a section of the social media statement.
Numerous industry big names are apparently thought to be a part of this show. According to the insider sources disclosed that Rekha and Sanjay Leela Bhansali are in “advanced discussions” for a key part in the Netflix series. Rekha reportedly had a role in Heeramandi that was specifically scripted for her. Additionally, according to sources, the programme also stars Madhuri Dixit Nene, Manisha Koirala, Sonakshi Sinha, Huma Qureshi, Nimrat Kaur, and Sayani Gupta. Along with SLB, Mitakshara Kumar, who has previously worked with Bhansali as an assistant and most recently directed Nikkhil Advani’s The Empire, will also be helming Heeramandi.
