Today is the 101st birth anniversary of actress, singer, and dancer Sitara Devi. On this special occasion, the producer Raj C Anand announced a biopic on her life and career. The film will be funded by Raj Anand Movies. The pre-production work is currently ongoing.
Son of Sitara Devi’s son and famous musician Ranjit Barot will lead the project by sharing an in-depth look into his mother’s life.
Barot said, when Raj Anand came to me with the idea of making a movie about his mother, I realised that he came from a very genuine space of enthusiasm and appreciation towards my mother who was an iconic artist. They intend to bring this untold story on big screens through this effort.
He is now helping with the research for bringing the fascinating story of a woman who reclassified women’s rights and femininity by living life on her own terms.
For the unversed, Sitara Devi was awarded Padma Shri in 1973, followed by Kalidas Summan and Nritya Nritya Nipuna awards in the 90s. However, she reportedly refused to take the Padma Bhushan award and Bharat Ratna for her commitment to the Kathak world.
There are no further details about the film revealed.
