The popular OTT platform Netflix is joining hands with the world famous Archies comics for the movie titled “The Archies” and it will be set in 1960s India. The story about growing up which will acquaint the teens of Riverdale with a new generation of India will be directed by Zoya Akhtar.
The musical and live-action movie will be produced by Reema Kagti for Graphic India as well as Tiger Baby. There are some critical hit movies directed by Zoya Akhtar like Gully Boy, Zindagi Na Milegi Dobara, Dil Dhadakne Do, etc. The director previously worked with Netflix when she directed short films for anthology films, “Ghost stories” in 2020, “Lust Stories” in 2018.
In the recent statement Zoya Akhtar stated that, she is super excited to have this opportunity to bring the Archies to life. It was a huge part of my childhood and high school years. The characters are notorious and worldwide adored, which is additional why she is somewhat getting nervous. And she further added, she needs to ensure the film stirs up the nostalgia of the generation that grew up with comics.
