Two of the most awaited projects of this year, S S Rajamouli’s RRR and Boney Kapoor-Amit Sharma’s Maidaan, are lined up to be released on Dussehra. A cold war started between the makers of both the films, as soon as the release dates were announced. Now Bollywood actor Ajay Devgan has decided to sort out this clash between Rajamouli and Kapoor.
A source familiar with the production of the movies said, “Since Ajay Devgn happens to be the common factor in both the films he is playing peacemaker between Boney and Rajamouli. Ajay is trying to arrange a meeting between the two filmmakers.”
The source further added, “While Boney feels he has the right of way since he announced his release date six months ago, Rajamouli feels his film and RRR are two completely different films, hence no competition for one another. Ajay is completely different in RRR and Maidaan.”
SS Rajamouli’s RRR stars, Ram Charan, NTR Rama Rao Jr, Ajay Devgn, Alia Bhatt, Samuthirakani and Olivia Morris. RRR is a period drama which is based on the lives of two freedom fighters. This movie has been mounted on a lavish budget and is expected to further the grandeur and visuals of India’s most successful Bahubali franchise. Initially it was scheduled to release on July 30, 2020, but due to the pandemic the release date was postponed.
On the other hand, Boney Kapoor-Amit Sharma’s Maidaan features Ajay Devgan as legendary coach Syed Abdul Rahim. It also stars Gajraj Rao and Boman Irani in pivotal roles. It is a sports-drama dedicated to the golden years of Indian football.
If both the ambitious projects hit cinemas on the same day (13th October), the lack of space given to each of the two big films during the time of release might make things worse for the exhibitors. Both the films will only be able to run to their full potential if the makers avoid this clash.
Though, Rajamouli and Boney are not willing to withdraw from the race, still Ajay as a peacemaker might be able to resolve the issue.
Fans are waiting to see who blinks first, Boney or Rajamouli.
