Yash Raj Films (YRF) has made a resounding entry into the world of OTT platforms, starting with the success of its debut web series, “The Railway Men.” The show, centered around the 1984 Bhopal gas tragedy, featuring Kay Kay Menon, R. Madhavan, Divyenndu Sharma, and Babil Khan, received global acclaim. Riding high on this success, YRF Entertainment, the streaming production arm of YRF, is set to follow up with a gritty crime thriller, “Mandala Murders,” starring Vaani Kapoor.
Reports says YRF Entertainment is venturing into an edgy revenge thriller series titled “Akka,” featuring South Indian sensation Keerthy Suresh and acting powerhouse Radhika Apte in lead roles. The project is described as a deliciously devilish period thriller and has recently commenced production after six months of extensive preparation.
The series, helmed by debutant writer and director Dharmaraj Shetty, caught the attention of Aditya Chopra with its disruptive vision. Aditya Chopra, the creative force behind YRF, greenlit the project instantly, envisioning “Akka” as one of the biggest tentpole series from YRF Entertainment. Specific details about the show are being deliberately kept under wraps to build anticipation and intrigue among the audience.
“Akka” marks Keerthy Suresh’s entry into the OTT realm, representing her second Hindi project after the under-production Theri remake with Varun Dhawan. Known for her outstanding performances across Tamil, Telugu, and Malayalam films, Keerthy Suresh’s foray into Bollywood is evident in her collaboration with YRF.
For Radhika Apte, a seasoned performer in the OTT space with shows like “Sacred Games,” “Ghoul,” and “OK Computer,” “Akka” signifies her first association with YRF. This action-packed series represents a significant stride in her already illustrious career, featuring critically acclaimed movies such as “Badlapur,” “Andhadhun,” and “Raat Akeli Hai.”
With “Akka,” YRF continues its ambitious journey into the digital domain, promising audiences a thrilling clash between two powerhouse actresses in a period setting. The series is poised to be a major highlight, further solidifying YRF’s standing in the OTT landscape.
