Producer Shailesh R. Singh is ready to release his new film, ‘Setu,’ after generating known and highly praised films such as ‘Tanu Weds Manu,’ ‘Shahid,’ ‘Aligarh,’ ‘Madaari,’ ‘Judgemental Hai Kya,’ ‘Omerta,’ and ‘Thalaivi. Setu, helmed by Vishal Chaturvedi, will be a nail-biting courtroom drama on the Samudram project’s approval in 2004 and the interim verdict that was issued in 2007.Setu is the narrative of an ordinary man who has been significantly affected by the Indian government’s decision on the Sethusamudram Project. He believes the project calls into question his basic existence and emotionally disturbs him to the point where he chooses to sue the government on the ground and in court.
Setu is producer Shailesh R Singh’s 20th project. Shailesh stated, that when the film earlier came to him he was not ready to finance the film as the project did not seem intresting to him and mostly a film is already being made on the same subject. But when the director Vishal described and enlarged the idea of the film, Shailesh’s interest in the film grew and he decided to finance the same. Shailesh stated that film is beyong faith, trith and justice for him. The idea had massively intrigued him.
For me, the essence of India is in its heritage, customs, set of beliefs, and ancient history,” director Vishal Chaturvedi said when asked about taking on the enormous burden of directing the film in the most distinctive way possible. If these factors are removed, India will resemble any other country. When the ‘Sethusamudram’ project was unveiled in 2004, I was so disappointed that I began digging for information. “In 2008, I also visited Tamil Nadu and Sri Lanka. When I told our producers Harshvardhan Singh and Sumeet Seth about this proposal, they asked Shailesh R. Singh to present it. Mr Singh was ecstatic when I tentatively approached him with the suggestion. His enthusiasm shines through in his planning and execution of the project” Vishal further stated.
