Jayeshbhai Jordaar, a big-screen family movie from Yash Raj Films, stars Ranveer Singh as a new kind of hero and heroism that is rarely seen in Indian cinema. In the film, Ranveer plays a jagged Gujarati man who stands up for his unborn baby girl and takes on his family, which is indicative of the patriarchal society in which we live. Jayeshbhai is one of the most charming heroes to ever grace the big screen, and he relished the opportunity to play a father in this film. Ranveer Singh explains that his father, Jagjit Singh Bhavnani, inspired him to play this role.
Ranveer’s father was a rock for him and his entire family during some difficult moments, and the actor channelled his father’s calm, protective attitude to play Jayeshbhai on screen. “I stole a lot from that aspect of my childhood, from witnessing the way my father interacted with us as a family,” Ranveer explains. It’s as if we were the only thing that mattered to him; from the moment he awoke to the moment he went to sleep, his sole purpose was to improve our lives, to be the best protector and provider he could be; to be the best family man he could be, to do everything in his power, no matter how much it cost him – physically, mentally, and emotionally.
“I have seen my father go through many adversities persistently, tenaciously keep going to fight those difficulties in life, overcome those hurdles so that he can give us a decent life so that he can prevent us, so that no matter whatever he is going through, or the complexities that he is facing – to never let that come onto us; shielding us from the difficulties of life,” he continues. I’ve seen it myself and understood it even then, but I now have a much deeper understanding of it.” In perspective, now that I’m a guy myself, I can comprehend at a profound level how difficult it must have been, how demanding it must have been, and how much it must have taken from him,” Ranveer adds. As a result of playing Jayeshbhai, I now have a far greater understanding of what my father did for me.”Jayeshbhai Jordaar, directed by Maneesh Sharma and produced by him, also stars Arjun Reddy’s Shalini Pandey, who makes her Bollywood debut opposite Ranveer Singh. The movie is the directorial debut of Divyang Thakkar and will premiere on May 13,2022 worldwide.
