On May 13, Ranveer Singh’s film Jayeshbhai Jordaar was premiered to and was expected to receive great acclaim. However, there was little buzz and mixed reactions. However, the industry and trade were stunned to see that it had only earned Rs. 3 crores on day one. On Saturday, there was very little growth (Rs. 4 crores). Weekend revenue is expected to be in the range of Rs. 11.50-12 crore. Jayeshbhai Jordaar is projected to have lower revenue starting today, Monday.
Meanwhile, it has been revealed that the makers of Jayeshbhai Jordaar, Yash Raj Films (YRF), have urged distributors to keep a fixed number of shows in their premises until Thursday. If the theatre owners fail to do so, YRF’s next two films, that are Akshay Kumar starrer Prithviraj and Ranbir Kapoor starrer Shamshera Prithviraj, may not be premiered in their theatres.
According to the source, “On weekdays, Jayeshbhai Jordaar had a flat performance. As a result, several distributors wanted to cut their presentations in half and substitute them with popular films like KGF – Chapter 2, Doctor Strange In The Multiverse Of Madness, and Marathi, Gujarati, and Punjabi flicks. However, YRF has specifically requested that cinemas guarantee that Jayeshbhai Jordaar has a sufficient number of showings. The exhibitors claimed that it would be impossible for them to participate. After all, if audiences haven’t shown up in large numbers to see Jayeshbhai Jordaar on weekends, how can they be expected to show up on weekdays?”
YRF, on the other hand, was emphatic and insisted on keeping a set amount of programmes, and that too during prime time,” the insider stated. No one wanted to mess with them, so the distributors agreed. Next up are Prithviraj and Shamshera. Both are lavish productions. Then they’ll release Shah Rukh Khan’s Pathaan and Salman Khan’s Tiger 3 the following year. All of these flicks have a lot of potential. As a result, rather than facing risk of not having these big movies in their theatres, the distributors agreed to play Jayeshbhai Jordaar the way YRF wants it this week.”
