“Chakda Xpress,” a film starring Anushka Sharma and inspired by the life and times of former Indian cricket captain Jhulan Goswami, will be available on Netflix.
The film follows one of the fastest female pacers in world cricket history as she rises through the ranks over the numerous obstacles posed by misogynistic politicians to achieve her sole ambition: to play cricket. “Chakda Xpress,” directed by Prosit Roy, is produced by Anushka Sharma and her brother Karnesh Sharma’s Clean Slate Filmz.
It’s a truly unique film since it’s ultimately a story of immense sacrifice.” Anushka Sharma said. Chakda Xpress is inspired by the life and times of former Indian skipper Jhulan Goswami and will be an eye-opener into the world of women’s cricket.
When Jhulan decided to become a cricketer and represent her country on the international arena, it was extremely difficult for women to even consider taking up the sport. This film is a theatrical retelling of various events that affected her life, as well as women’s cricket, the actor stated, describing the film as “an underdog story” in Indian cricket history.
Goswami also discussed the difficulties she experienced early in her career, when the popular belief was that “women can’t play cricket.”
It doesn’t matter if a man’s achievements are sometimes prioritised over yours. It makes no difference if the stadiums are empty. When you walk onto the pitch to bowl, all you see is your opponent holding the cricket bat and the stumps you need to knock out,” said the cricketer, who belongs from Chakdaha in West Bengal’s Nadia region.
eam India is more than the thunderous sound of 1.3 billion voices praying and shouting. Sometimes it’s just one girl from Chakda playing cricket with her squad, shivering, yelling for, and rising together when the stumps are finally knocked out, she further added.
