On Friday, Veteran sharpshooter Chandro Tomar, popularly known as ‘Shooter Dadi’, passed away due to Covid-19 complications. She breathed her last at the age of 89 at Meerut medical college.

Earlier this week, Chandro Tomar complained of difficulty breathing after which she was admitted to Meerut medical college in Meerut. On 27th April, the sharpshooter tested positive for the virus.  Her family shared the news of her testing COVID-19 positive through twitter.

On Friday, she succumbed to the disease. Several eminent personalities mourned Shooter Dadi’s demise.

 

In the year 2019, Bollywood film Saand ki Aankh featuring Taapsee Pannu and Bhumi Pednekar was based on the life of Chandro and her sister Prakashi Tomar.

While mourning for her ‘cutest rockstar’, bollywood actress Taapsee Pannu wrote on twitter, “For the inspiration you will always be… You will live on forever in all the girls you gave hope to live. My cutest rockstar May and peace be with you Red heart.”

Actress Bhumi Pednekar too expressed her grief and wrote on the micro blogging site, “Devastated by the news of Chandro Dadi’s demise. Feels like a part of me is gone. She made her own rules & paved the path for many girl to find their dream. Her legacy will live on in them. Condolences to the family. Am lucky I got to know and be her Folded hands#ChandroTomar #ShooterDadi.”

Actress Kangana Ranaut re-shared a tweet captioning it, “No please no…..”

Aviation minister Hardeep Singh Puri called shooter dadi an epitome of gender equality & champion of women’s rights who will inspire generations to come. He extended condolence to the family in hour of grief.

Shooter Dadi picked up the gun when she was above 60. She won many national competitions and was the oldest woman sharp shooter in the world. She took part in many competitions along with her sister Prakashi Tomar, who is also one of the oldest female sharp shooters in the world.

Chandro won many awards in senior citizen category including Stri Shakti Sanman presented by the President of India.
