Tamil actor and comedian Vivek passed away in Chennai at 59 due to a cardiac arrest. He was admitted to the hospital on Friday after he faced a heart attack. Vivek also took the Covid-19 vaccine on Thursday.
The hospital clarified that he suffered an acute coronary syndrome with cardiogenic shock. There was 100 per cent blockage in a vessel and his cardiac arrest may not be due to the vaccination.
“Vivek was one of those who voluntarily came forward to create awareness on public health and social issues. The cardiac arrest he suffered had no link with the Covid vaccine shot that he took,” Tamil Nadu Health Secretary Dr Radhakrishnan said.
He was known for his performances in films like Sivaji, Kushi, Minnale, Alaipayuthey, Mugavaree, Dum Dum Dum, Anniyan etc. Vivek was last seen in the film ‘Dharala Prabhu’ that was directed by Krishna Marimuthu and was a remake of Vicky Donor that starred Ayushmann Khurrana.
Chief Minister Edappadi K Palaniswami expressed his concern and said that “it is an irreparable loss to the Tamil film industry”.
“The untimely demise of noted actor Vivek has left many saddened. His comic timing and intelligent dialogues entertained people. Both in his films and his life, his concern for the environment and society shone through. Condolences to his family, friends and admirers. Om Shanti,” PM Modi tweeted.
