Indian film critic, Taran Adarsh has officially announced the release date of Kunal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur’s upcoming psychological thriller, Koi Jaane Naa.
The critic took to his social media handles and wrote, “IN CINEMAS, 26 MARCH 2021… #KoiJaaneNa – a psychological thriller starring #KunalKapoor and #AmyraDastur – to release in *cinemas* on 26 March 2021… Directed by Amin Hajee… TSeries Films presentation.”
‘Koi jaane na’ came into news after superstar Aamir Khan shot for a dance number in the film along with Elli AvrRam, and the shots went viral on social media. The movie is directed by actor and screenplay writer Amin Hajee and is produced by Bhushan Kumar’s T-Series. It features Kunal Kapoor and Amyra Dastur in lead roles. Apart from them, Aditi Gowitrikar, Raj Zutshi and others also play pivotal parts in the film. Aamir and Elli’s song was filmed in Jaipur and it helped the film to generate awareness as well as excitement.
The director Amin Hajee had played the role of the mute drummer, Bagha in Aamir Khan’s ‘Lagaan’. He was also seen in the character of Vir Singh in ‘Mangal Pandey’. As a screenwriter, he has previously written for Shah Rukh Khan’s Swades and Mimoh Chakraborty’s Haunted-3D. With KoiJaaneNa, Hajee is all set to make its directorial debut.
Talking about making his directorial debut in an interview, Amin said, “After seeing Swades the creative satisfaction I felt was immense. I realised that directing a movie you have written and envisioned is the highest of highs. So I continued to write and joined Vikram Bhatt in writing horror and thriller films which I enjoyed immensely and learned so much from. After the success of Haunted and 1920 Evil Returns, I decided to take a break and write my own script. This is when Koi Jaane Naa happened.”
Interestingly, Aamir Khan and Ashutosh Gowarikar advised Amin to develop the story of the movie into a feature film. Amin said, “It was an idea that spawned from a short story I read. Whoever heard it, loved it. I narrated the story to both Aamir and Ashutosh and both of them told me that I should debut as a director with this script. I have waited for six years from getting their approval to finding a producer. But it was worth waiting for.”
The film went on floor last year and earlier it was slated to release on October 11, 2019.
