On Thursday, filmmaker Rohit Shetty said that his much-anticipated directorial Sooryavanshi starring superstar Akshay Kumar and Katrina Kaif depends on the reopening of theatres in the country. The cop-drama has been delayed for over a year as its release has been pushed thrice due to the Covid pandemic.
Akshay Kumar’s Sooryavanshi was scheduled to release on 24th March 2020 but it got postponed to June 2020 and April 2021 as cinema halls were shut across the country owing to the Coronavirus. With all other producers announcing digital releases, the fans are waiting for the new release date of Sooryavanshi. However, according to the latest update, the makers do not want to head towards OTT. They have decided to wait for the theatres to reopen for the audience.
On Thursday, filmmaker Rohit Shetty attended a press conference of his upcoming adventure reality show Khatron Ke Khiladi. During the conference, he was asked about the release date of Sooryavanshi, to which he replied, “The question is when will theatres open up?”
Shetty said, “The most important thing is vaccination and when that will happen then everything will open up. However, we should not think that everything is slowly getting okay. We still need to take precautions because even today everything is still not okay. In other countries, the cases are rising. This time we all need to take utmost care and not go on holidays thinking everything is opening up.”
The 48-year-old director further added, “It is very important for the work to begin. However, it is important we take care of our loved ones and colleagues and become responsible, it is just a matter of a few months as the vaccination drive is also happening in full swing in our country. It is good that things are opening up. But at the same time, we shouldn’t get excited because then everything will shut down again. We need to be careful about all this especially after the second wave.”
Sooryavanshi is Shetty’s fourth film in his cop universe after Ajay Devgn-starrer Singham, Singham Returns and Ranveer Singh starrer Simmba. The movie features Akshay Kumar who was first introduced in the post-credits of Simmba. Ajay’s Singham and Ranveer’s Sangram Bhalero will also make a cameo in Sooryavanshi during the climax.
Presented by Reliance Entertainment, the movie has been produced by Rohit Shetty Picturez in association with Dharma Productions and Cape of Good Films.
