The biopic of shuttler Saina Nehwal featuring actress Parineeti Chopra is all set to release in March this year. The biopic will chronicle the life of Saina Nehwal. The movie was in talks for a very long time.
After the hit biopics of Indian sports legends like Milkha Singh, Sachin Tendulkar and MS Dhoni, another biopic is ready to hit silver screen. The biopic of three time Olympian Saina Nehwal titled ‘Saina’ will release on March 26. Bollywood actress Parineeti Chopra will play badminton player Saina Nehwal in the film.
On Tuesday, Parineeti officially announced the release date and also shared a teaser of the movie on her social media handle. While sharing the teaser video the actress wrote, “”SAINA! 26th March in cinemas.”

Saina Nehwal also took to her official twitter account and shared the first-look poster and teaser. She wrote, “I’m so glad to share a glimpse of my upcoming movie, #Saina. Lots of love to the entire team. In cinemas on 26th March.”

In the 30 second teaser, the audience gets a brief glimpse of Parineeti as Saina. The teaser shows the grooming of Saina from a young enthusiast to an ace shuttler. Her fierce determination comes through as Parineeti says “Saamne koi bhi ho, main toh bas maar dungi (I don’t care who my opponent is, I will simply go for the kill).”
‘Saina’ will capture the journey of Saina Nehwal who was the first Indian female shuttler and only the second Indian after Prakash Padukone to achieve the No.1 ranking. The movie is helmed by Amole Gupte and is co-produced by Bhushan Kumar, Krishan Kumar, Sujay Jairaj and Rashesh Shah under the banner of T-Series and Front Foot Pictures.
Parineeti who will play the role of Saina in the movie had worked hard for this project. Inorder to familiarise herself with the sport, Chopra was trained by Saina herself. During her training sessions, the actress even suffered an injury, but she recovered to complete shooting. Before Parineeti started training, actor Shraddha Kapoor had signed on to play the lead role.
Apart from Parineeti, filmfare award-winning actor Manav Kaul will be essaying the role of ace badminton player Pullela Gopichand. Gopichand mentored Saina throughout the majority of her career.
‘Saina’ was shot in 2019 and initially it was scheduled to release on September 2020, but due to the pandemic it got postponed.
